The Florida Citrus Bowl stadium kicks off each season with its an annual Capital One Bowl on New Year’s Day. This match-up between the top teams from the Big Ten and Southeastern Conference, is college football’s premier non-BCS bowl game. Since 1925, the East-West Shrine Game® is the longest-running, most respected all-star college football game in history and benefits Shriners Hospitals for Children®.
Since 2001, Monster Jam has revved up Orlando with its live, motorsports competition featuring some of America’s favorite monster trucks. It totally gets your motor runnin’.
The fall season introduces the MEAC/SWAC Challenge. This annual football challenge showcases a team from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). In 2009, the United Football League emerged; a professional football league with four teams, including the Florida Tuskers. During their inaugural season, the Tuskers went 6-1 and clinched a spot in the UFL Championship game against the Las Vegas Locomotives. Since 1925, the Florida Classic game has served as the annual matchup between historic rivals, Bethune-Cookman University and Florida A&M University. Each December, the Citrus Bowl hosts the Florida High School Athletic Association’s (FHSAA) football championships. This playoff series features the state’s top-performing high school football teams. The Florida Citrus Bowl concludes the year with the Champs Sports Bowl, which highlights the top non-BCS team (#2 overall) from the Big East versus the #3 overall from the Atlantic Coast Conference.
